Back in Norway

A year ago, I quit my job at Google. It’s taken a long time to settle everything there and finish my move back to Norway, but now I’m finally mostly settled in, so perhaps it’s time to write a few things about what I’m up to now, here in Alta.

First, my current employer is Miksapix Interactive, where I get to work on things that are a lot more fun than what I got to do at Google. I’m certainly involved in some game development for them, but now they’re also letting my work on my hobby projects, primarily my programming language. Although I designed my language to be powerful enough to be used by professionals, we’re now also looking at augmenting it to become a beginner-friendly programming tool that even children can learn and use to create games and other things.

Also, I’m now working with director Nils Gaup and Paranord Film on a documentary. We’d like to explore spiritual phenomena like shamanism, and see if we can find some kind of explanation for these things, perhaps with scientific experiments if possible. This has also taken some of my time, and we’ve already filmed a few shots. Though we’re still looking around for people to join some of our investigations.

I’m now also able to afford myself some nice things I haven’t been able to have before, like a cat. I now have a beautiful female Bengal cat keeping me company. She can be a bit demanding, but I suppose I could use the exercise anyway, and it gives me more of a reason to get up every day, trying to keep that little creature as happy as I’m able to.
